Our Mission
Confidance deliver high quality dance work with integrity, creativity and integration at its heart. Working in schools, community settings, and arts venues, we make dance and performance with dancers with learning disabilities. Confidance are based in East Kent, resident at The Wyvern School (Ashford) and Quarterhouse (Folkestone).
Our vision is of an empowered and united society where people are paramount and difference is an asset.
Driven by curiosity, we continue to deepen our approach, exploring ways to redefine dance and make sure that the powerful, creative voices of our artists are heard in all areas of our practice. As we pursue the certainty that we are all artists, we push the boundaries of what we consider dance to be and who it is for. We create, educate, and perform.
Creating lifelong access to dance
We are committed to creating a cyclical dance offer, where people with learning disabilities can have lifelong access to dance. We aim to achieve this by:
-
Imbedding our practice into the SEN school curriculum in a way which supports and inspires children and young people to dance.
-
Developing progression routes for young people to pursue a career in dance, as both artists and facilitators, through our ConfiYouth company.
-
Establishing a Community Company for adults who wish to dance and perform recreationally.
-
Creating high-quality dance works with our ConfiCo artists through regular training on our professional pathway.
-
Training our artists to become independent dance facilitators, who can then become part of a representative workforce for Confidance. They then become the artists who work in schools and communities to raise aspirations for participants.
